Το Ίδρυμα Ευαγόρα και Κάθλην Λανίτη σε συνεργασία με το Φεστιβάλ «ΓΕΩσυναντήσεις» και τους Lions Λεμεσού παρουσιάζουν την έκθεση «Το μεγαλείο της Φύσης: Έντομα και Φυτά», στα πλαίσια των εκδηλώσεων για τη Γαλλοφωνία 2012.

Η έκθεση η οποία παρουσιάστηκε πέρυσι στην Αθήνα στο Μουσείο Γουλανδρή Φυσικής Ιστορίας-Κέντρο ΓΑΙΑ, ταξιδεύει τώρα στην Κύπρο.

Σε ένα μαγευτικό ταξίδι στην καρδιά της φύσης προσκαλεί το κοινό ο Γάλλος δημιουργός Gilles Mermet, μέσα από την έκθεση «Το μεγαλείο της Φύσης: Έντομα και Φυτά». Στα έργα του αποκαλύπτονται οι λεπτομέρειες φυτών και εντόμων και αναδεικνύονται οι αντιστοιχίες τους.

Ο δημιουργός φωτογράφισε μέσα σ’ ένα σκοτεινό φωτογραφικό εργαστήριο περισσότερα από διακόσια είδη, δίνοντας έμφαση στη λεπτομέρεια. Παράλληλα πραγματοποιήθηκαν ρεπορτάζ στη Νέα Καληδονία, τη Νότια Ινδία, όπως και μέσα σε βοτανικά θερμοκήπια, με στόχο να αποκαλυφθούν οι μορφές, οι δομές και οι υφές του κάθε υπό εξέταση είδους.

«Αυτή η έκθεση δεν αποτελεί μια επιστημονική επίδειξη, αλλά μια συγκεκριμένη ματιά πάνω στη φύση, στην υπηρεσία της φύσης. Μια ματιά η οποία υπονοεί αντιστοιχίες αλλά δεν επιβάλλει τίποτα. Μια ματιά στο ‘υπερπέραν’, στον κόσμο πέρα από τον άνθρωπο, ο οποίος, μέσα από παιχνίδια αντικατοπτρισμού, μας παραπέμπει στο ίδιο το μυστήριο της δικής μας ύπαρξης. (…) Είθε αυτή η έκθεση να συμβάλλει ώστε να γίνει πιο συγκεκριμένη η έννοια της ‘βιοποικιλότητας’, ανεκτίμητος πλούτος του Πλανήτη και πρωταρχική πηγή για τον Άνθρωπο».

Τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης, θα τελεστούν την Πέμπτη, 5 Απριλίου , ώρα 10.00 π.μ., στον Πεζόδρομο της Περιοχής Μεσαιωνικού Κάστρου, στη Λεμεσό, από τον Έντιμο Υπουργό Γεωργίας, Φυσικών Πόρων και Περιβάλλοντος, κο Σοφοκλή Αλετράρη, στην παρουσία του δημιουργού της, Γάλλου φωτογράφου Gilles Mermet.

The Evagoras and Kathleen Lanitis Foundation is presenting the exhibition  “Utopia” from March 22 to May 17 featuring  new acquisitions from the collection of Nicos Chr. Pattichis and Phileleftheros newspaper.

Following on from the first presentation of Nicos Chr. Pattichis collection in 2008 “Where do we go from here?” at the Municipal Arts Centre, the exhibition at the Evagoras and Kathleen Lanitis Foundation comes as a response to that question. The search which triggered the persistent where finally found its destination in utopia. This is what inspired the title (Utopia) which pursues not only the new direction in the Pattichis collection but also the concerns which preoccupy contemporary Cypriot and Greek art. Therefore, whereas the 2008 exhibit reflected the involvement of the artists and the interest of the collector in form and in representation, this new presentation of the collection, which has since been enriched with more than thirty works, registers the artists’ aim to tackle, through their art, crucial issues of the social and political reality.

Whether it be the Makarious Nisous (Blessed Isles) of ancient Greek mythology, the Ithaka of Ulysses or the elusive Utopia of  Thomas More in his book of the same name (1516), the search for utopia nearly always has an island as a destination. On its shores, philosophers, writers, poets and artists have sought the meaning of eternal happiness and a fair society. However, an island is not always a place of salvation. Robinson Crusoe managed to come ashore near Trinidad, but Ariadne was trapped in Crete and Ulysses on the island of Calypso. Cyprus has been promoted and established as the sun drenched isle of Aphrodite and often through the years been seen as a paradise lost of the West. But every utopia, even the most enduring, is defined by its failure.

It is this non-place, as suggested by the etymology of the word, this unattainable state, which is built not only of dreams but also of nightmares, mythical beasts and destruction. In Cyprus, this dystopic reality has many names: Green Line, the Cyprus issue, immigration problems, uncontrolled urbanisation, the financial crisis. Inevitably these difficulties enter the work of modern artists who at times tackle it with optimism at others with contemplation. The exhibition at the Evagoras Lanitis Foundation will seek to reveal their soul searching through the new acquisitions of the Pattichis collection.

The Evagoras and Kathleen Lanitis Foundation, in collaboration with the Herakleidon Museum of Athens, hosts at the Evagoras Lanitis Centre in Limassol the world acclaimed exhibition titled “The Complete Sculptures of Edgar Degas,” which has traveled around the world attracting widespread international interest.

“The Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen”

The exhibition presents all seventy-four bronze sculptures by Edgar Degas featuring “The Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen.” The sculptures are from the collection of the M.T. Abraham Center for the Visual Arts which graciously loaned the bronzes to the Evagoras and Kathleen Lanitis Foundation for this special exhibition.
